After visiting the ruines of the Gardiki Byzantine fortress, go along the quiet, paved road in the direction of Cape Varda. Through an olive grove we climbed up to the somewhat hidden Grava cave, where traces of human occupation were found (Neolithic 20,000 BC).

Hi Luc. I want to walk to route to the caves near Mt Stavros with Easter but when I was in the south and after the celebrations it started to rain for strong and for the rest of the cave. I hope to make the trip early in the morning in August (yeah, it would be hot, so leaving at 06:00 from Corfu town or something;-) ) . I want to ask you something about the location of Grava cave.I was there last year but couldnt find it. Parked the car near the road, walked at the entrance of the olive grove with the sign to the cave (not clear with direction) and start to walk to the RIGHT. I had to stop cause of dense vegetation. On your map i see you walked not to the right but straight ahead and up in the olive grove, correct? Kind regards!

On the 'Pros Paralia Kanouli' road towards Prasoudi, at a field road to the right, there was a sign pointing in the direction of the Grava Cave. After about 20m runs a narrow path to the right, underneath and upward in the olive grove. So indeed, you have to walk straight ahead north and up into the olive grove.

The olive grove is laid out in terraces and the path was hardly visible, so it's a bit zigzagging looking for the easiest step up to the higher terrace. It's not really climbing, but if the olive grove still is overgrown as it was in 2011, good footwear is recommended.

The cave is at N39° 28' 45" E19° 52' 54". Entering these coordinates as a waypoint in the GPS, can keep you in the right direction.

    Good luck and have fun!

Thanks Luc. I went to the right but the vegetation was dense. I will wear my rainboots like with Easter ;-)
