This recording is of the closest two falls: Ravine Falls and Phantom Falls.
This years bloom was quite spectacular even though we are officially in a drought. I went on a weekday and the crowds were BEYOND CRAZY. Word from the wise: DON’T GO during Spring Break!!! (my error!)
Also, please pay attention to the elevation gain and the elevation graph. Don’t mistakenly think this is a simple wildflower hike ... it is not! As you can see, the first 1.3 miles is all downhill which means you’ll be going uphill on the way back = be prepared! The terrain is very rocky with jagged basalt. Real hiking shoes are a must!
Also, take plenty of water. There is very little shade and the heat on this exposed plateau can get intense.
You’ll want to take lots of photos so know-before-you-go that you won’t be doing much “hiking”, but you will be doing lots of moseying.
NOTE OF CAUTION: the road uphill from Oroville has degraded quite a bit. There are areas that suddenly narrow from 2-lanes down to 1 lane. Also, the shoulder drop-off in some areas is very deep ... if you go off the road, you might not be able to get back on.
