Normally a circular route, but we decided to do as an ‘out and back’ to avoid the notorious boggy ground in Glen Geusachan.

We head west for 5km to the ‘white bridge’ to cross the river Dee and pickup a track along the river for 3km before breaking off onto heathery hillside. We rise up on rough wet ground over Carn Clioch-mhuillin and then up the pathless rocky rib leading to Beinn Bhrotain.

We continued down the huge jumble of boulders on its western side, dropping to the narrow col before making the final ascent to the summit of Monadh Mor. Superb views east towards the larger and more interesting munros, including Ben Macdui (shrouded in cloud). We retraced our steps back to the car - we managed to avoid the worst of the boulders over Beinn Bhrotain and took a shorter line bypassing the summit of Carn Clioch-mhuillin.
