Steep areas and some areas close to the edge.
If you fear heights, this might be a bit challenging... but only in a couple parts.
We began at the dinghy dock in town and opted to begin from heading up toward Fort Napoleon, but taking the road to the right heading toward the Baie de Pompierre. There is a sign for the trail to Fort Caroline and Morne Morel. (NOTE: You can also begin the hike from the Base du Marigot, but we opted to do it in the opposite direction.)
The most strenuous part of the hike is the walk up the steep road at the start! That turns into a path of smaller rocks... still a steepish climb in a lovely wooded area.
You then reach the intersections. We turned right and continued on the side path to the remains of Fort Caroline and the Battery and the lovely views of Baie de Pompierre, Grande Anse and beyond.
You must double back on this road, then continue on to the trail for Pointe Morel.
The trail now goes onto the side of the mountain, out of the forest, and down a rocky, rubbly path that is steepish but very doable. Just go carefully.
You then reach a flattish area where you can go straight or to the right. It is a loop. We opted to go to the right. This will take you towards Pointe Morel.
You do not actually go to the very edge of the pointe... at least we did not find a marked trail to take us there.. and... as we did not want to miss lunch... we did not "investigate" further!
The path, then, for a brief portion, goes along the edge of the mountain. If you have a fear of heights, this might not be good. It is not for a long time, and very doable.
You then climb up a magnificent flow of huge rocks and boulders and return to the wooded forest, following the very easy trail down toward Base du Marigot.
We took the road back to town not to miss Sunday lunch!
We stopped our Wikiloc just before arriving at the restaurant.
