Hi Robert, is climbing equipment (rope, etc.) necessary to pass the gorge?

hi...no...there are 2 steep sections (one long & one short) that have a rope already attached to them...both ropes were in good condition at the end of may when i last crossed the gorge...

I have followed this trail  View more

I've done this trial in the middle of August There wasn't even a drop of a water in the riverbed and mountains. Beautiful and diversifed landscape including the seacoast. Two rope sections (about 15m and 3m) in the middle part. The path is well marked by stone pyramids. I would divide the trail on three parts:
    1) the lowest part from Agia Roumeli to Fliskounias plateau (moderate).
    2) the middle part from the forested plateau through Potamos riverbed (very difficult)
    3) the upper part above Potamos riverbed (moderate)
In general I consider it a very dificult trail probably even more difficult and time consuming in winter when there is water in the riverbed, not only due to its technical difficulties, water shortages in summer but also for its length. Two days required when starting from the seacoast with an option to stay for a night either in Katsiveli
